 Frequently Asked Questions
about the Class Ebook
This webpage contains information to help members of the
Christian Science Association of the Pupils of J. Thomas Black, C.S.B. in their use of the
Concord version of the classbook (Class Ebook).
To access and view the Class Ebook, it is necessary to own and have installed on your
computer a copy of "Concord: A Study Package" published by the Publisher,
Writings of Mary Baker Eddy and available through Reading Rooms and directly from the
Publisher, 175 Huntington Blvd., Boston, MA 02115.
The Class Ebook has been created in three formats, DOS, Windows and Macintosh.
The CD-ROM used to distribute the classbook holds all three formats. Your computer
will automatically access the correct format for your version of Concord for Windows and
Macintosh. PC users will have the option to open a folder for DOS or Windows
depending on your version of Concord.
To make full use of the Class Ebook, it is best to first be familiar with your
own computer and with Concord. Then the classbook will be as simple to use as
any group of references.
The Macintosh, DOS and early Windows versions of Concord will not display the entire
contents of the Class Ebook due to size limitations within those programs.
However, for the Windows version, a "fix" for that problem has been released by
the
Publisher and is available on their web site at the address below:
http://www.tfccs.com/concord/WINDNLD.htm
If the fix has been applied to your copy of Concord for Windows, you may open the document
entitled: "Complete.cit". If the fix is not yet applied, you may open any of the
smaller segments which relate to the roman numeral sections of the classbook,
"Ebook_1", "Ebook_2", etc. Also in separate sections are the
dictionary (EDICTION) and index (EINDEX). The book titled "Complete.cit" holds
all these items
in one document. Those having either option may find studying the complete version more
convenient, others may find the segments more manageable.
Concord for Macintosh will require the use of the individual segments. It does not appear
that a fix will be created for the Macintosh version in the near future.
You may choose to copy Windows files from the CD to your hard disk. Doing so allows you to
save changes to the dictionary and areas of the Class Ebook containing definitions. Please
note: once you have copied these originals to your hard disk, each file will need to have
its attributes altered to allow changes. Follow these steps:
1. Drag the Ebook(s) to the chosen spot on your hard disk. A folder
in "My Documents" might be appropriate.
2. "Right-Click" on the icon of the selected Ebook. This will reveal
a list of choices. Select "Properties".
3. A Properties box will appear. At the bottom, next to "Attributes",
is a check-box labeled: "read-only".
4. Remove the check mark by clicking inside check box.
5. Click "OK" to close the properties box and save the change.
6. Repeat this procedure for each Ebook component on your hard disk.
DOS files will not require these additional steps.
Follow these instructions to install your copy of the DOS classbook:
1. Copy the DOS files (*.nbk) from the CD to the \sp\notes directory.
2. Start DOS Concord.
3. Select NotEbooks.
4. Hit the <F> key.
5. Type *.nbk and the <Enter> key.
6. Use the arrow key to scroll down to the NOTES directory and hit
the <Enter> key.
7. Use the arrow key to scroll down to EbookI.NBK and hit the <C> key.
8. Hit the <Tab> key to highlight the "To" field.
9. Hit the <+> key until Notes shows up in the "To" field.
10. Hit the <Enter> key.
11. You will see a notice asking if you want to overwrite this file.
Hit the <Y> key.
12. Hit the <ESC> key and you will be at the same display as in step 7.
13. Repeat Steps 7 - 12 until you have copied all six books the Dictionary
and the Index.
14. When you have completed copying the files hit the <ESC> key and you
will see the Notes display.
15. Hit the <Enter> key and you should see all of the Ebooks in your Notes file.
The executive committee of the association welcomes your comments and suggestions.
